Australian Football simply could not happen without the hard work and dedication of umpires. Their task is often a thankless one, with any decision made likely to disappoint at least half of the players and spectators. Howeve, their task is a vital one, and can in itself be a very enjoyable experience.

As AFL Britain increases its profile in the UK, so too does the need for people with leadership skills, good decision making ability and a desire to participate in the great Australian game as umpires. AFL Britain is keen to attract new people who are looking to keep fit, work in a team environment, are willing to rise to the challenge and, most of all, be involved in Australian Football in the UK.

Whilst in the past the primary focus was to provide umpires to the London divisions, with the growth in the game and new partnerships with other leagues, opportunities are increasing to be involved in the Regional England, Scottish and Welsh Leagues. Umpires are paid for their services, and we welcome all-comers. No previous experience is required - coaching will be provided on all matters from rules to positioning, communication and leadership. Umpiring is also a great way for retired players to stay involved with the game. It is never too late to take up the challenge!

Umpires are encouraged to come together as a team several times a year. Regular social meetings are arranged for discussions and appointments.
