brit_cup.jpgNo, 5 July is not a bye weekend - Brit Cup is on the horizon and approaching fast!  A tournament aimed at celebrating the ever increasing pool of talent developing outside of Australia, Brit Cup aims to bring the very best out of all of the non-Australian players in the country.

With it being International Cup year there will doubtless be many British-born players hoping to catch the eye of Bulldogs coach Charlie Kielty, who is busy preparing to take on the world in Melbourne in August.  While the Bulldogs squad is becoming a fearsome and closely-knit unit there is always the chance that players could force themselves into the reckoning, and Brit Cup is the ideal place to do just that.

While many Australians see it as a chance to put their boots up for the weekend and slob out in front of the tv we would like to encourage as many people as possible to get down and support their teammates in this years tournament.  Support can be the difference between defeat and victory, and there's nothing like the advice given out by seasoned players to help get that extra bit out of players and push them on to even greater heights.

Somewhat strangely the tournament history has reflected that of the regular season, with traditional powerhouses West London and Wandsworth taking turns to lift the trophy in every one of the last seven years.  However, this remarkable stat masks the strides that have been made by other teams, with Brit Cup being one of the few opportunities where the playing field is trully levelled.  all of the other London clubs will be hoping to snatch some silverware here, as will those clubs who play in other leagues around the country who are even now working on entering teams.

The tournament will be made up of two round robin leagues, with the top two from each competing in a semi-final and potentially a final to decide who will raise the famous trophy aloft.

More details for Brit Cup will be released soon, so be sure to keep your eyes on these very pages...
