Shepherding is one of the most useful things you can do for a teammate who has the ball, but is often one of the first things players forget to do after a few matches.  Those who remember and use this skill can really help their team out by keeping the pressure off of those on the ball and will be really appreciated!

The idea behind shepherding is simply to keep an opponent away from a nearby teammate who has the ball.  You can't full-on tackle your opponent as they don't have the ball, but you can use your body to keep them away.  Simply place yourself between them and your teammate and keep them back.  Sounds easy?  Give it a go!

Remember though, that you can't grab, throw or push them, you are simply blocking their way through.  Make sure you are actually close to the play too (about 5 metres or less), or you could concede a free kick.
