This tupe of mark is probably the best to get to grips with, as if it is done correctly it gives little if any chance to the defender to get to the ball first. It might sound simple, but as with every skill it is practice which will make perfect. Keeping your eyes on the ball at all times, stretch your arms out towards it with your hands splayed out to create as big a catching surface as possible. Make sure that you spread your fingers right out, as if they are even slightly scrunched the ball has a good chance of stubbing them which is at best painful and at worst could break them and cause serious ligament damage. Keep your thumbs behind the ball to help stop it slipping through your grasp. As soon as you feel the ball close your hands around it, although if you have positioned your thumbs correctly this should be an instinctive reaction. This type of mark keeps the ball clear of your body and safely in your hands which allows for easy and fast disposal, so practice it until you get it right. Then practice some more. |
