The drop punt is one of the best ways to kick a ball, and is almost always the most reliable way of getting the ball quickly from A to B.  It can be used for short and long kicks and is pretty much the most common form of kicking in the game.

To do a drop punt simply hold the ball on both sides, pointing it towards the ground.  Take a short run-up and guide the ball down onto your foot with one hand.  Release the ball as close to your boot as you can, and keep your head over it to stop it shooting straight upwards.

Make sure you follow through and point your toes to make sure the kick is even more accurate.
