You're standing on the touchline, almost in line with the goal posts and need to kick a goal - now is the time to pull the banana kick out of the bag!  This kick is not used often, but can be a great way to use the element of surprise and make a kick when you really have no right to and should it work is something you can talk about for many seasons to come.

To do a banana kick sounds simple but is actually very, very difficult to do consistently well and will take either a lot of practice or a lot of luck.  Hold the ball in the same way as you would for a torpedo kick, only reversed.  So, if you are right footed hold the forward part of the ball with your right hand and the back with your left, obviously reversed if you kick from the left.

Take care when you release the ball the make sure that it falls properly so that you kick it at an angle, otherwise it will all go wrong.  The closer to the point you kick it the more it will bend and this skill is one one which will only come from practice.  To bend from left to right you will need to kick it on the left side of the ball, from right to left on the right.
